Labor caucus votes to OPPOSE a plebiscite on marriage Labor leader Bill Shorten has just announced that the Labor Party caucus (federal MPS and Senators) has unanimously voted to OPPOSE a plebiscite which would have asked the people if homosexual 'marriage' should be legalized. In a 3 minute speech to the media, Bill Shorten gave three reasons why Labor would not support a plebiscite and would vote against it in the Senate. These included the cost, the lack of certainty about votes by Coalition MPs and the 'harm done' to homosexual people and their families. This means that a plebiscite will not be held, since there are now enough votes in the Senate, with crossbenchers and Greens, to defeat the 'plebiscite enabling Bill'. This is the position we have expected for some time. Homosexual advocates surrounded Mr Shorten as he made the announcement. Mr Shorten finished his speech by saying that both he and the Prime Minister support 'marriage equality'. He called for for a 'free vote' in the parliament to legalise homosexual 'marriage'. News.com reported, "Before Labor formalised its opposition to the public vote, Attorney-General George Brandis released draft amendments to the Marriage Act that could be enabled by a plebiscite late on Monday night. The changes include redefining marriage as between “two people” rather than “a man and a woman” and allowing ministers of religion and non-religious celebrants to refuse to marry a same-sex couple." WATCH the 3 minute video at SMH - Labor blocks plebiscite Media report at News.com.au: Labor votes to block same-sex marriage plebiscite Every child comes from and needs BOTH a mother and a father. Same-sex "marriage" intentionally keeps either a mother or a father from the child. Government should protect the child through upholding traditional marriage.
