Just picture seven billion self-centered human beings on planet earth all living as if they were the centre of the universe. All living for the now and thinking only of themselves. All demanding their "rights," demanding what they think is freedom, demanding their lusts, desires, ambitions, needs all be met as a matter of priority. Insisting that governments, law courts, teachers, friends, parents, children all pander to them. No truth, just individual subjectivism (the doctrine that knowledge is merely subjective and that there is no external or objective truth), relativism (the doctrine that knowledge, truth, and morality exist in relation to culture, society, or historical context, and are not absolute), anything and everything goes.
It doesn't work does it? One says, "you should pander to me," but the other says, "No, you should pander to me!" Is this a glimpse of some sort of hell on earth? A taste of what is to come?
This is a fruit of secular humanism, the state-sponsored, dominant religion of our time in the West. It is the opposite of what comes out of true Christianity. The foundations of the West were laid by people influenced by and proclaiming the truth and wisdom of the Bible. These foundations are currently being broken up and removed by people who have neither read the Bible with any honestly, nor who want anything to do with any authority figure over them, especially not a Creator God to whom they are accountable for their actions, and who tells them that what they are doing is wrong and bad for them.
"What I’m referring to is the nihilism of what German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche called “last men,” apathetic creatures without any great passions or commitments," said John Stonestreet.
As philosopher Thomas Hibbs wrote in his book, “Shows About Nothing,” last men live lives characterized by a “state of spiritual impoverishment and shrunken aspirations.”
Last men live to be amused and gratified. As R.R. Reno wrote in the latest issue of First Things, they may retain the “human desire for truths worthy of our devotion,” but since, as Hibbs noted, they don’t believe that any “religious or moral code is credible,” they settle for, in Reno’s words, “holding small truths with great vigor.” 1
What do "Last men" and women look like according to the Bible?
"Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
... They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. ... they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them." 2
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-- having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. ... They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected." 3
Every child comes from and needs BOTH a mother and a father. Same-sex "marriage" intentionally keeps either a mother or a father from the child. Government should protect the child through upholding traditional marriage.
There is “a time to be silent, and a time to speak”. (Ecclesiastes 3:7). Now is the time to speak, so please speak up and defend children, truth and freedom. Craig Manners
